Do you offer placeholder rings?

Yes, you can purchase a sterling silver and CZ placeholder ring for $150. Should you decide to purchase with us post-proposal, this can be traded in and credited towards your engagement ring purchase of $4,000 or more. Only styles in our collection are available as placeholders and they are pre-set with a standard size CZ stone between one and two carats.

Placeholder rings are $50 when shipped internationally, shipping is non-refundable.

What sizes do the placeholder rings come in?

4 through 8, including half sizes.

Do you offer travel rings?

Yes, if you purchase your engagement ring through us we can make an exact replica of your ring in sterling silver and CZ for $500.

We can also size and ship one of our try at home sample rings for $150.

Are travel rings eligible for return?

No, travel rings are final sale.

Are placeholder rings eligible for return?

No, placeholders rings are excluded from our 60 day free return policy, but can be credited towards an engagement ring purchase of $4,000 or more. One placeholder can be credited towards one ring.

Are rings are made to order by our experienced bench jewelers in NYC.

Do you rings come in 14K gold?

Yes, any ring can be purchased in 14K gold. Usually, it’s around $50 less.

What kind of metal do you use?

We use 100% recycled gold and platinum.

What is recycled gold? How does that impact quality?

Recycled gold is reclaimed from post-consumer sources and re-refined. It’s exactly the same as newly mined gold without the environmental damage. Our sources include recycled jewelry, industrial products, and electronics.

Are your white gold rings rhodium-plated?

Yes, we plate all our white gold rings with rhodium unless you request otherwise. Rhodium gives white gold a whiter, brighter look.

Do you offer non-rhodium plated white gold?

We do! If you’d prefer your white gold raw (no rhodium plating) just let us know.

Do you offer gold which is not quite yellow and not quite pink?

Yes, this goes by a variety of names but basically has a lower copper content than rose gold, but more than yellow gold. If this is something you’re interested in, let us know.

What’s in your 18K rose gold?

Our 18K rose gold is 75% gold, 24% copper, 1% silver with trace elements of zinc. The zinc accentuates the color of the copper and gives it a lovely blush pink hue.

What’s in your 18K yellow gold?

Our 18K gold alloy is 75% gold, 15% silver, and 10% copper.

What’s in your 14K white gold?

Our 14K white gold alloy is 58% gold, 23% copper, 9% copper and 10% nickel.

What’s in your 18K white gold?

Our 18K white gold alloy 75% gold, 14% copper, 5% zinc and 6% nickel.

What’s in your platinum?

Our platinum alloy is 95% platinum and 5% ruthenium, another member of the platinum family.

Is there a design fee?

Custom design is free for orders over $2,000.

Can I customize a setting from your collection?

Absolutely. All of our settings can be customized. Get started by

How does the custom design process work?

Get started by taking the ring quiz to request a free sketch. Sketches are free, and you can request as many as you like.

When you’re ready, book a consultation with a designer who can help work through the details.

Once the design is finalized, your designer will curate a list of stones for you to choose from based on your quality requirements and price point.

Finally, we model your ring design in 3D. If you’d like we can also send you a 3D printed resin prototype in a grey plastic to test the fit and preview the design prior to making the ring.

When you’re ready to pay, we’ll send you an invoice for payment to check out through our website.

Can you make a 3D model of my custom ring design before I select a diamond?

Yes, but there’s a $150 non-refundable deposit per ring which can be credited towards your order for the ring you mocked up.

What if I change my mind after receiving my 3D ring mock-up or wax prototype and want to go with a different design or make changes?

One 3D mockup + two rounds of minor revisions are included with your order. If you change your mind after seeing your 3D mock-up or receiving your resin prototype and want to go with a different ring design, this is an additional $150.

I want to compare two custom designs — can I get CAD mockups of both?

Yes! You can purchase an additional CAD mockup and 3D printed model for $150.

I paid for multiple CAD mockups. Can I credit both of these to my order?

Unfortunately, no. Only the CAD mockup of the design you’re going forward with can be credited towards your order.

I paid for a CAD mockup but no longer want to order my ring, is it refundable?

Unfortunately, no. The CAD deposit is non-refundable and can’t be credited towards a different ring design.

I live outside the US — can I get a CAD mockup and resin model of my custom ring design?

Yes, we can send you a 3D printed resin model to test the fit and preview the design, but we don’t cover the cost of shipping. This is usually between $50 and $100.

Can custom settings be returned?

Yes, our 30 day free returns policy applies to custom and non-custom designs.

Can I see my ring before I buy it?

Yes! We can send you a 3D printed resin prototype to try on at home. One prototype is included with the order. Additional prototypes can be purchased for $50.

Is your try at home service available outside the US?

We do offer this service in Canada, shipping is $60, and this can be credited towards your order if you decide to purchase with us.

We don’t yet offer this service outside of the US and Canada.

How thick are your bezels?

We’re known for our light, airy bezels. On average, our bezels are .5mm

How thin of a band can I get?

Our minimum band thickness is 1.35mm. While other websites do offer bands thinner than that, those bands will bend and deform with wear. We recommend a 1.5mm band and up.

Can I do pavé 3/4 of the way around the band instead of 1/2?

Yes, just ask!

How is your mill grain detailing applied?

Our mill grain detailing is done by hand. In certain cases, where there isn’t enough room, it’s cast into the ring.

How thick are your prongs?

Around .75mm when finished.

How are your prongs finished?

Our classic prong finish is a claw prong, sometimes also referred to as a talon. We can also do a round or square finish.

Do you price match with other websites?

Yes, we can typically match if the price of the diamond is lower, the diamond is listed on a major website and you are not ordering a custom setting.

Yep! We can melt it down and give you a credit towards your order. The credit is usually $50 – $100.

Can I have my local jeweler set my stone in your setting?

Not at this time.

How will my engagement ring ship?

If you’re in the US it will ship via UPS next day air. If you’re overseas it will ship UPS worldwide express.

Is my shipment insured?

Yes, from the time it leaves our studio until you sign for it it’s insured for the full value.

Is your packaging discrete?

Yes, it ships in a UPS express box with no labeling on the outer box.

Is shipping free?

Always. Complimentary next day air shipping is included with all engagement ring purchases over $1,000. Purchases under $1,000 ship via 2 day air.

Can you rush my order?

Yes, rushes can be accommodated on a case by case basis but do cost a bit more.

There’s a $250 fee for rush orders on styles from the collection. Delivery sooner than two weeks (14 days) is considered a rush.

There’s a $350 fee for rush orders on custom styles. Delivery sooner than three weeks (21 days) is considered a rush.

How long is (international) shipping?

International packages ship via UPS worldwide express and generally take around three days, however, there can be delays in customs, and this is outside of our control.

Do I have to pay (International) duties and taxes?

This depends on where you live. Duties and taxes vary country by country and can range from 0% to around 25%. They are collected directly by customs after your order ships. It’s a good idea to factor this into your budget. Contact us if you’d like help estimating how much this will be.

How do I pay?

You can pay with a credit card, paypal or bank transfer. We also offer financing with Affirm, and interest free layaway.

Do you offer a bank transfer discount?

Yes, it’s 1.5%.

How does your layaway program work?

You pay 60% upfront, and the remaining 40% in 2 equal payments. We make the ring when we receive the second payment, and deliver the ring when we receive the third.

Do you offer a warranty program?

Yes, we offer a lifetime manufacturers warranty. This covers issues due to manufacturing, but not from regular wear and tear.

Examples of common jewelry issues that would be considered manufacturing defects include:

-Stones already loose in a newly made ring
-Newly-made rings that are deformed or bent
-Rings that are easily bent or deformed without any significant force
-Rings that were made with the incorrect material such as gold rather than platinum

Examples of common jewelry issues that would not be considered manufacturing defects include:

-Discoloration due to exposure to chemicals.
-Prongs and precious metals, in general, wear over time and may require “building up” or restoration work as normal wear.
-Bent, caught or worn out prongs(s) allowing a stone to fall out or be lost due to normal wear or other damage.
-Lost stone or a stone has fallen out due to chipping or breaking caused by normal wear or other damage.

Because each ring is custom, every issue we encounter is a unique case, and we have to inspect each ring to determine whether it is covered by the manufacturing warranty. If we find an issue is not covered by warranty, we also offer you options on how to repair the ring.

Do you offer free resizing?

Yes, all domestic orders for engagement rings and wedding bands come with one free resizing + round trip shipping within 60 days of receipt.

International orders for engagement rings and wedding bands also come with one free resizing, excluding shipping. The cost of shipping is based on the value of the ring.

Further resizing’s are free for life, excluding shipping.

Rings are resized by adding or removing a small amount of metal from the back or side of the band, depending on if there are diamond accents or an engraving. There are no marks left behind, but the band may be slightly thinner or thicker when completed.

Some rings, like eternity bands, can’t be resized but are allowed to be exchanged for the correct size under our return policy.

We can size a ring up or down a maximum of two sizes.

How do I figure out my size?

-Email us at hello@frankdarling.com to request a “free” ring sizer!

-Please keep in mind depending upon your temperature, hydration level, hormones etc; your ring size can fluctuate about a half size this is completely normal.

How should a ring fit?

Your ring should feel a bit tight when it goes over your knuckle, but not pinch when on. If you have larger knuckles that prevent you from getting the right size, we can add speed bumps to the inner surface of the band to help hold it upright. These can be added at any point post-purchase. Engagement rings are top-heavy, and a too-big ring will spin on your finger and annoy you.

How long does resizing take?

About one week excluding shipping.

How long does prong tightening take?

A few days excluding shipping.

How long does polishing tightening take?

A few days excluding shipping.

How much does it cost to ship my ring to you for annual maintenance?

$35 – $50 each way depending on the value of the ring.

Not too small? not too big? Just a bit loose:

(Speedbumps)-Are bumps of metal soldered and smoothed into the bottom inside of your ring. Perfect for those who have a slightly larger knuckle and a smaller finger. Speedbumps are unnoticeable and will hug your finger, making your ring more secure and less likely to spin. 

What is your return policy?

Frank Darling accepts 60 day free returns on eligible purchases from the date of order. Rings purchased through our bring your own stone program and placeholder rings are not eligible for return. Only one ring per customer is eligible for return every 6 months. Your certificate must be returned with the diamond (There’s a $250 fee for missing certificates). 

Jewelry determined misused or taken to a third-party jeweler is not eligible for return.

Are international orders eligible for return?

Yes, international orders come with 60 day free returns as well, We just ask that you cover shipping. Duties & taxes are not eligible for refund.

Layaway:

If you’re purchasing the ring on layaway, the diamond can be returned for 60 days from the date of the first payment. The setting can be returned for 60 days from the date of order.

Once we receive your ring back we’ll verify the item is in like-new condition and process the return within 3-5 days. It can take up to two weeks to be processed fully.

The certificate must be returned with the diamond. There’s a $250 fee for missing certificates.

I love my diamond. Would I be able to just change the setting?

Yes! As long as you’re within our 60 day free returns period you can return your ring and we’ll reset your stone in a new setting. Please reach out, if you’d like to change the setting we only ask that you purchase a new setting with one of our designers. 

Loose Diamonds:

We can return loose diamonds within 2 weeks from the date of receipt. Each client is only allowed one loose diamond return. The diamond must arrive in its original condition, with its diamond certificate, and must not have been previously set.

What carat weight are the rings in my try home kit?

Carat varies based on the collection. The Sidney and Parker collections are mostly one carat, Billie is mostly 1.5, and Mason and Harper are mostly 2. Contact us at hello@frankdarling.com to be sure.

I lost my return label, help!

Does the try at home kit include a free ring sizer?

You bet!

My try at home kit says it was delivered but I don’t have it.

Sometimes USPS scans the kits before delivering them. Don’t stress. Give it 1-2 more days to arrive. Often it’s been misdelivered to a neighbor or shows up shortly after the scan. If it still doesn’t show up, email us at hello@frankdarling.com and we can help.

What if I need a little more time with my kit?

Email us at hello@frankdarling.com and we can extend the return window by a few days.

What if I want to try on more than four rings?

While there’s no limit to the number of try at home kits you can order, we can only ship one / customer at a time. As soon as we receive your first kit back, you’re welcome to order another!

Are bands available for home try on?

You betcha!

What happens if my try at home kit shows up late?

You can keep the kit for five days from the date of a receipt, even if it shows up late.

What’s the penalty for not returning my try at home kit?

Your card on file will be charged $250.
